The Ritz Hotel, opened in 1906 by Swiss hotelier César Ritz, is a Grade II listed building designed by architect Charles Mewès in a neoclassical Louis XVI style, reminiscent of an elegant Parisian apartment block.

As part of the hotel's extension and refurbishment, we were commissioned to explore the feasibility of producing new Juliet balconies that matched the original designs, while incorporating modern manufacturing techniques.

We began by surveying one of the original balconies, creating a detailed 3D model of the entire feature. From this, we reverse-engineered the individual components, using 3D-printed wax patterns for the investment cast elements. The main frame was produced through sand casting, and each part was zinc sprayed before being powder-coated and assembled.eature. Components were laser cut from 8 mm steel, then zinc metal sprayed and wax finished to achieve a textured, cast-steel appearance. The treads and balustrade infills were crafted from English Oak, providing a warm contrast to the robust steel structure.
